According to statistics by the
US Department of Health
and Human Services, up to 600,000 men, women, and children go homeless
each night in the United States. On any given day in Seattle, approximately
4,400 people are homeless according to statistics compiled by the
National Coalition
for the Homeless.
Since its beginning, the members of the Bellevue
Alumnae Chapter have been actively involved in various community programs to
aide in Economic Development throughout the community. This year the
Sorority is working closely with the East King County YWCA to volunteer
services that will help enhance opportunities for individuals residing in
transitional housing.
Chapter members have participated in several
events with the YWCA:
 |
School book drive donations
(see photos) |
 |
Chef's Fest - YWCA's annual
benefit to raise money for
transitional housing. (see photos) |
 |
Working Wardrobe donations -
donations for homeless women seeking entry back into the work force |
 |
Established a "Delta Shelf" at the
EKC YWCA, to stock personal hygiene kits. |
As
a public service organization, chapter members are dedicated to
volunteering in the community that we serve. Our work with the YWCA helps
the sorority to meet its commitment towards Delta Sigma Theta's own
programmatic initiatives in actively participating in the community.
